Across the Eastern Caribbean, accountants are stepping into a new era of innovation, leadership, and transformation. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Eastern Caribbean (ICAEC) will celebrate Accountants Week 2025 from November 8th to 15th under the theme “The Evolving Role of Finance Professionals.”
The week of activities will highlight the profession’s modern relevance, its contribution to economic growth, and its ability to adapt in an age of digital disruption. It will also focus on attracting more young men to the accounting field.
According to ICAEC President Andrea St. Rose, the week provides an opportunity to showcase the critical role chartered accountants play in supporting economic development while encouraging greater public engagement with the profession.
“Once upon a time, the accounting profession was dominated by men. In today's world, the tables have turned — women are now leading the profession,” St. Rose said. “We want to use this platform to encourage young men to pursue professional designations in accounting. They are becoming a protected species in our field, and we need to restore that balance.”
St. Rose also discussed how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping the accounting landscape, noting that while technology can automate processes, it cannot replace the strategic and analytical insight that accountants bring to organizations.
“AI will handle the data processing and the financial statements. Our role will shift toward analyzing and interpreting large volumes of information to help decision-makers guide their businesses to success,” she explained.
This year’s theme emphasizes the accountant’s evolution from traditional scorekeeper to strategic business partner. Throughout the week, participants will engage in interactive sessions and expert-led discussions designed to provide practical tools for the future of finance.
Vice President of the ICAEC Saint Lucia Branch, SueAnn Charlery-Payne, expressed enthusiasm about the week’s activities, which will be hosted across the islands of Antigua and Barbuda, St. Kitts and Nevis, Dominica, Grenada, and Saint Lucia.
“We are super excited about our lineup from November 8th to 15th. Each island will have its own calendar of events, which persons can view on the ICAEC Facebook page,” she said.
The week’s activities include a health and wellness day, church service, media day, and a student outreach programme at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College and UWI Open Campus, featuring an ACCA expert tutor.
On Wednesday and Thursday, the ICAEC will host a virtual business conference from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., open to all professionals not just accountants. The conference will explore timely topics such as forensic accounting, personal brand strategy, and managing generational diversity in the workplace, with one session tailored to HR professionals.
The week culminates with a social media photo competition and a cocktail and awards ceremony featuring live entertainment by renowned Saint Lucian musician Barbara Cadet.
St. Rose expressed appreciation for the Institute’s partners and sponsors whose contributions made the event possible.
“We are grateful to our gold sponsors ACCA, Bank of Saint Lucia, and UTC Global Balanced Fund; our silver sponsors EY, PwC, PKF, and M&C Group of Companies; and our bronze sponsors Grant Thornton, SLASPA, and Proven Bank.”
